Base 3: Reciprocal Tension Membrane (RTM)
One of the goals of the course is to provide you with practical skills so that you are able to evaluate and treat RTM and have effective, gentle tools for releasing the entire system. You will refine your grounding, intention, and use of fulcrums on a deeper level.

The importance of RTM in osteopathy
RTM plays a crucial role in maintaining the body's structural integrity and freedom of movement. Understanding and treating RTM is essential for releasing tension, improving mobility, and restoring the body's balance.
RTM techniques are critical for the effective treatment of musculoskeletal problems, postural imbalances, and other movement-related disorders. The use of RTM is clinically relevant for the treatment of a wide range of conditions, including neurogenic disorders, pelvic/spinal fractures, and pregnancy-related conditions.
Course description
Contents
The RTM (Reciprocal Tension Membrane) course lasts 1 1/2 days and is designed to delve into the essential understanding and practical skills for releasing RTM. Throughout the course, participants will be guided through a review of the relevant embryology and anatomy of RTM and the pelvis, as well as a review of "The core link and diaphragms."
A key element of the course is the assessment of RTM movements in both the inhalation and exhalation phases, which is an important part of your diagnostic tools in practice.
We treat the various components of RTM and try to get a sense of how RTM works in all areas. And as a whole. This includes releasing the lower pole with the iliac, lumbar, and sacrum. The upper pole with frontal and parietal lifts and spreads and release of the tentorium. In addition, treatment of the core link (spinal cord and spinal meninges).
If you have already taken M2 at SCCO, this course provides more in-depth knowledge of the pelvis, where we spend time releasing the entire ligamentous system around the sacrum/iliae, costae before the sacrum and lumbar region are released. This creates the ideal conditions for the sacrum to unfold its intraosseous aspects.
The response to our contact depends on whether we are able to establish a meaningful meeting place for the recipient. So the basic principles from basis 1 are the foundation we continue to work with, just in different ways.
Goal:
To provide you with practical skills so that you are able to evaluate and treat RTM and have effective, gentle tools for releasing the entire system. To refine your grounding, intention, and use of fulcrums at a deeper level.
The clinical relevance of the course is broad and includes, among other things, treatment of neurogenic conditions such as disc protrusion/prolapse, spinal stenosis, lower back pain, paresthesia, and whiplash. It also covers fractures of the pelvis/spine, conditions of the ue, and adhesions around the pelvis/abdomen. The course is also suitable for treating pregnant women, both during pregnancy and in preparation for childbirth, where good plastic function of the pelvis is crucial.
The release of RTM has far-reaching effects on our entire nervous system. Both the purely mechanical advantage of a plastic nervous system, but also the impact that comes via vascular release, where cerebrospinal fluid, veins, and arteries are given better conditions.
