Background

The course establishes the practical and conceptual foundation for achieving truly excellent results with cranial osteopathic treatment—a comprehensive field that the basic training program unfortunately only touches upon, and where targeted continuing education provides a noticeable boost in practice.

Central to the teaching is the development of the ability to establish and maintain optimal contact with the tissue—a skill that is fundamental to achieving the desired effect.

The practical curriculum includes grounding, centering, fulcrums, motion present, and neutral as key elements, as well as an introduction to Balanced Ligamentous Tension (BLT) and Balanced Membranous Tension (BMT).

Professional awareness

A particular area of focus is cultivating the ability to wait for the tissue's own response – something that requires both patience and technical finesse, and which is important for the tissue's ability to self-correct.

Working in the cranial area places special demands on the practitioner. There are two typical pitfalls:

The first is lack of presence – “spacing out” and losing contact. It requires both mental self-discipline and technical precision to maintain your presence in the meeting place with the system.

The second is to become too intense and induce vectors in the patient yourself. This prevents self-correction from occurring, and you even risk adding self-created lesions – and instead feeling your own "footprints" of lesions in the system rather than the patient's.

Here, you will gain the necessary knowledge and receive supervision on how to maintain yourself in the best possible physical and mental condition – so you can go home with skills you can use from day one in the clinic.

About the course

Take that home with you

You will learn to adjust and adapt your contact precisely and consciously when treating your patients.

You develop a deeper perception that enhances the quality of all your manual methods—not just cranial work.

You will experience firsthand how effective it is to let your body's self-adjusting powers do their work, with the osteopath acting as the fulcrum for the process.

You will gain access to a professional language that makes it easier to read and understand the classic literature of W.G. Sutherland, Viola Frymann, Rollin E. Becker, Robert Fulford, Harold Magoun, Robert Lever, James Jealous, and many others.

You will gain insight into Sutherland's professional journey and his close connection to A.T. Still's original philosophy.
